York Consulting Solutions was born from a simple yet meaningful moment—a Sunday morning conversation while volunteering at church. In that moment, after a 37-year career in law enforcement, Gary York recognized a continued calling to serve. Not from behind a badge, but alongside those who still wear it—helping agencies grow, adapt, and lead with purpose.
Gary retired in December 2024 as Chief of Police for the Madison Township Police Department in Franklin County, Ohio. His law enforcement journey began in 1987 with the City of Groveport, where he started as a reserve patrol officer and rose through the ranks to Detective, Sergeant, Lieutenant, and ultimately Chief of Police. Following his retirement from Groveport in 2018, he was selected to lead Madison Township, where he guided the department through growth, organizational development, and operational improvements until his final retirement.
Throughout his career, Gary has remained deeply committed to leadership development and professional excellence. He is a graduate of the Police Executive Leadership College through the Ohio Association of Chiefs of Police and the prestigious Northwestern University School of Police Staff and Command. He also completed the FBI National Academy in Quantico, Virginia, where he engaged in advanced leadership and academic coursework through the University of Virginia.
Gary’s academic background includes an Associate of Science in Law Enforcement Technology, a Bachelor of Applied Science in Criminal Justice from Ohio University, and a Master of Science in Administration from Central Michigan University. This combination of education and real-world leadership experience allows him to provide practical, actionable guidance to agencies facing today’s complex challenges.
Over the course of his career, Gary has trained hundreds of law enforcement officers across Ohio. As an instructor in multiple basic police academies, he has taught a wide range of subjects including investigations, firearms, emergency vehicle operations, legal procedures, defensive tactics, human relations, patrol operations, civil disorder response, traffic enforcement, physical conditioning, homeland security, and police administration.
In addition to academy instruction, Gary has served as a guest instructor for the Ohio Peace Officer Training Academy and the Ohio Association of Chiefs of Police. He has also contributed to higher education as an adjunct professor, teaching criminal justice courses at two Ohio colleges.
